LINDEN A suspected automobile thief needed to hold on for dear life, gripping the roof of an Audi A6 while it fled up Routes 1&9 early this morning with police cars in pursuit, police said.
The incident started around 12:40 a.m. in Linden when officers, following up on a report of a stolen automobile, saw the Audi and a Subaru on Clinton Avenue, said city police Lt. James Sarnicki.
When a patrol vehicle pulled up in front of the Subaru, which turned out to be stolen in Passaic, the driver rammed the vehicle into the cop auto, he said. The officers were not injured.
Two men got out of the Subaru. One ran away, and the other jumped onto the Audi's roof and screamed "go!" Sarnicki said.
